APERÇU DE LA MÉTHODE

La RMN, dans son usage le plus fréquent, est utilisée comme sonde de l’ordre chimique et topologique à courte distance. Ainsi peut-on identifier et quantifier dans les multicouches et systèmes nanocristallins, les différentes phases, leurs défauts de structure et la nature abrupte ou diffuse de leurs interfaces. La RMN donnant une information dans l’espace direct elle est un complément intéressant des techniques classiques de diffraction. Outre ces investigations structurales nous utilisons maintenant le caractère essentiellement magnétique de la technique pour l’étude des corrélations entre la nanostructure de systèmes composites et leur propriétés magnétiques locales. Ainsi, le champ hyperfin, donnée brute d’une observation par RMN dans les systèmes ferromagnétiques, permet une évaluation directe du ou des moments locaux. On peut donc, par exemple, estimer le profil d’aimantation aux interfaces diffuses entre couches magnétiques et couches non magnétiques. De plus la RMN mesure aussi le couple de rappel des moments électroniques du à l’anisotropie magnétique et/ou à l’énergie d’échange. Ce couple peut être quantitativement évalué et exprimé sous forme d’un champ de rappel, mesure du champ d’anisotropie, ou du champ de propagation de paroi, ou champ d’échange selon le mécanisme qui détermine le processus d’aimantation. Cette mesure magnétique est faite à chaque fréquence, sélectionnant ainsi les différentes régions d’un échantillon composite. La RMN est donc un outil unique pour étudier, à l’échelle atomique et séparément, le comportement magnétique des diverses composantes d’un échantillon. A l’aide de cette magnétométrie locale on peut ainsi mettre en évidence et quantifier les différences d’anisotropie magnétique entre agrégats purs et zones alliées dans les alliages nanocristallins sursaturés, par exemple, ou les différences de susceptibilité magnétique initiale aux interfaces et au cœur des multicouches magnétiques.
