DON is known for its important experimental and theoretical contributions to the research in the field of ultrafast processes: femtosecond magneto-optics, dynamics of charges and spins in functional materials and nanostructures, and electronic and structural dynamics in polymers and biomolecules. The research on Nanophotonics covers microscopy and micromanipulation of single biomolecules, nonlinear guided wave propagation in polymers and hybrid nanostructures, laser-induced processing of organic materials, leading to the development of active optical prototype devices. To this end, DON develops innovative experimental techniques. This concerns, in particular, advanced optics and laser technology and UV to mid-IR ultrafast spectroscopy (atto- and femtosecond coherent light sources, spectro-temporal detection of ultrafast signals, near-field microscopy, micromanipulation and FRET of single molecules, ultrafast magneto-optical confocal microscopy).
